With the fall equinox upon us, I’m reminded that change is constant. With change we may feel conflicting feelings caused by the end of one thing and the opening and beginning of another.
While new beginnings are exciting, they can be stressful too. The famous Holmes-Rahe Stress Scale includes marriage and retirement both considered “happy times” near the top of list.
Transformation can be challenging and truly amazing. Last fall, over several walks at a local nature center, I witnessed a caterpillar transform into a chrysalis and emerge as a monarch. I learned that this particular monarch was a 4th generation that migrates all the way to Mexico.
The one constant that supports me through transitions is bringing awareness to my breath. What’s great is we always have this tool with us. No matter what life change you’re going through, I invite you to pause, take several deep breaths and allow the tears and feelings to flow.
